Health
and safety

Good employers take the safety of the people who work for them seriously.

Health and safety is an essential part of running a business and all people who exercise significant influence over the management of the business have responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its amendments.

Contract Construction is firmly committed to a policy enabling all work activities to be carried out safely.  All practicable steps are taken for the health, safety and welfare of employees, contractors, visitors and the public.  We coordinate and consult with our employees, customers and visitors to assist in realising our health and safety objective to create a safe working environment for all.

We have robust Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures that are implemented throughout the company and on all of our construction sites.  We compile a dedicated Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) for each project for approval by our clients.  Having a comprehensive health and safety plan – and putting it into practice every day – ensures we keep our team and our clients safe.

Our comprehensive Health and Safety Programme meets the requirements of current Health and Safety legislation and best practice guidelines. Our Health and Safety Programme is based on ACC’s Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP), and we are both Impac Prequal Category 4 and Sitewise Gold Accredited.

Subcontractor Accreditation Process

We have successfully developed and implemented a subcontractor Health and Safety accreditation and onsite performance process. Prior to engagement our subcontractors must provide sufficient proof of their Health and Safety systems. This includes adequate staff training checks. Subcontractors and not allowed to commence on site until they are fully accredited by our Health and Safety Manager.

Environmental Sustainability

Sustainability includes environmental, social, and economic factors. Sustainable building considers social and cultural needs, the responsible use of resources, and ensures no irreversible damage to the environment during its entire life cycle. Contract Construction operates with a philosophy that every project we engage in is an opportunity to enhance the environment and improve both the social and economic aspects of life in Canterbury.
