St Joseph's School is situated in Papanui, North West Christchurch. The school opened in 1878 and is now the largest Catholic primary school in the diocese.
Contract undertook the construction of two new classroom blocks early 2017 with completion in October 2017.
The construction framework consists of an insulated concrete slab with ground beams, timber framing, pre-finished metal roofing and Titan board cladding. Titan Façade Panel offers a bold industrial look for both light commercial and residential applications where a panelised look is desired. The board is resistant to fire, damage from moisture and rot, and provides a long lasting and robust finish. An extensive covered outdoor area is supported by RHS steel framing.
As construction was carried out during school term time, particular attention needed to be paid to Health and Safety for students, school staff and visitors, as well as Contracts staff and subcontractors. A comprehensive Site Specific Safety Plan was compiled at the start of the project in consultation with the school. A high level of communication was maintained throughout the project.
